Thimphu is the quaint capital of Bhutan, that sits in the western wing of the Bhutanese topography. It replaced Punakha as the administrative capital in the year 1955 and has been going through extensive modernization ever since. It sits alongside the banks of river Raidak, that is known as Thimphu Chhu in Bhutan. The city is beautifully dotted with vintage monasteries, oriental architectural buildings and lined streets that merge together in the clock tower avenue where cultural programs are held.

Pay a visit to the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory - Here, the paper is still made in an ancient traditional fashion with the barks of Daphne. You can watch the workers or make your own paper to take home some custom made stationary.
Watch the national animal of Bhutan in the Takin Preserve. They are animals who are extremely rare and said to have been created by the amalgamation of a cow and a goat. A Takin represents hard work and perseverance.
